3 Tips to Survive Your Walk to Class This Winter

Jan 18, 2018

Brrrr! Step outside to go to class, and you just might wonder how the Yetis can stand it. But unless you’re lucky enough to own a car, you’ll be walking a fair amount this winter. Better dress thick and stand tall. Your grandparents had to walk through three miles of six foot snow uphill both ways, and so can you. Here are 3 tips for survival.

Live Close

The first tip is choosing Athens Ohio rentals that are close to OU. Living close to campus can save you literally half an hour of trodding through the snow each way. You can also rent an apartment close to Court Street, which is not too far a jaunt way from most classes. It will also make bar hopping less of a winter trek.

Dress the Part

I don’t know how many students I’ve seen shivering in thin jackets, no hat or gloves. One wonders how they’ll survive. Dress smart and bundle up. A lot of heat gets lost through your head, so wear a warm hat, cover up those ears, and use a scarf. Put on gloves. Wear several pairs of wool socks. Long underwear can be your best friend. The general rule is: dress warm enough you wouldn’t be afraid to eat ice cream in any weather. Be comfortable, no matter how frozen the tundra gets.

Drive

If you can’t handle the cold, make sure you pay for a parking space close to Ohio University so you can drive and not have to worry about parking. It will be worth saving yourself the grief, not to mention what you’ll save on parking tickets.
