Calling All Motorheads! Don’t Miss the Athens Car & Motorcycle Show

May 13, 2024

Now that the weather has warmed up, it’s finally time to get outdoors for the season and see all that’s going on around Athens. If you have an affinity for automobiles or a love for motorcycles, the 5th Annual Masons Car and Motorcycle Show is happening at the fairgrounds on June 8th from 1-5pm and promises to be a showcase of vintage and customized cars from years gone by and draws crowds of auto afficionados from around the greater area.

What to Expect at the Car and Motorcycle Show

If cars are your jam, you’re probably no stranger to the concept of a car show—historic automobiles line grassy fields in a dazzling display of bright paint jobs, custom interiors, and more. And they’re all ready for the primetime and to be viewed by hundreds of eager enthusiasts from across the area who are itching to get the chance to see some of their favorite vintage cars up close and in person for the first time.

The Athens fairgrounds provides the perfect setting for events like this—participants in the show take advantage of the empty space to set their cars up in style to be viewed and judged at the end of the day to determine who has the best car (and motorcycle) in show. Beyond the cars to view and ogle at, car shows are—of course—filled with likeminded enthusiasts who are all too ready to talk about their cars and current projects. It’s a fun place to swap ideas, trade numbers, and make new friends in the auto enthusiast community.

What Makes Car Shows Special?

If you’ve never had the chance to attend a car show, you might wonder what makes an automobile show special or worth going to—after all, you could get a similar display of cars—sans historic vehicles—at a car dealership. First, you’re going to see a huge variety of cars, and most of them are collectible, vintage vehicles from times gone by that you’re rarely, if ever, going to see driving out on the roads. Plus, with all of those cars being judged based on their appearance, they’re going to be in pristine condition, cleaned and detailed to perfection.

Car shows are also a great place to network with fellow car enthusiasts—after all, they didn’t bring their prized cars to the show for nothing. The car owners will likely talk your ear off about their cars if you give them the chance, so you can learn more about the history of the vehicle you’re admiring, find out some great repair or detailing tips from the pros, or even just exchange pleasantries and compliment them on the car they brought along.

Even if you’re not well-versed on cars or aren’t really into cars that much, shows are still a great weekend activity. You don’t have to be a certified car maniac to appreciate historic cars that are well taken care of and are photo-ready.
