MoSo Farm’s Fall Harvest Show: A Night of Music and Community

Sep 16, 2024

While a lot of folks consider bountiful harvests to happen during the summer (think fresh vegetables, ripe, juicy stone fruits, and more), there are actually a ton of fresh produce that reaches peak ripeness and flavor during the fall months—after all, the harvest moon happens in late September, named so because it enabled farmers to work late into the night gathering crops.

To celebrate the season of fresh harvests, MoSo Farm, a first-generation farm raising pastured meats in the heart of Athens, is celebrating the harvest season with their community at the farm for a night full of music, camaraderie, and delicious food.

About MoSo Farm

MoSo Farm is a local farming operation in Athens with the goal of bringing their community closer to the natural world. It is headed and operated by Molly Sowash and CJ Morgan, both first-generation farmers who are committed to doing something different. Currently, their farming entails mostly livestock, focusing on beef, pork, and chicken, which customers can either have delivered to their homes in the Athens area, or can pick up locally in Athens at the farm or at the Athens Farmers Market, which MoSo Farm regularly attends.

They regularly host events on their land and keep patrons updated on farm happenings via the blog section on their website. All in all, it’s a labor of complete and total love on their part, and their commitment to farming and education around the topic is nothing short of admirable.

Some of the events they’ve hosted in the past include a silvopasture “field day,” which entails participants learning about the practice of silvopasture, a form of farming which integrates both livestock and trees in a mutually beneficial way. It’s a climate-smart practice, and attendees were able to get hands-on with mock tree plantings and education sessions. They’ve also teamed up with the Ohio Ecological Food & Farm Association to host a farm tour of their land for anyone who’s curious about MoSo Farm, their practices, and life on the farm.

One of their biggest focuses is on their community, which shines brightly through their inclusion of events. What other farms in the area are putting on farm to table dinners with an actual chef?

About Their Fall Harvest

The Fall Harvest Show at MoSo Farm is a free-to-attend event on Saturday, October 5th from 4-9pm. While donations are appreciated to support the musicians and artists, all they ask is that you bring yourselves, lawn chairs, and perhaps some sides to share with others in the form of a large, community potluck. Local live music will be played on their front porch as all the attendees sit beneath the night sky, enjoying one another’s company.

Event-goers are asked to rsvp to the free event to give MoSo Farm a good estimate of the number of people to expect for their Fall Harvest Show.
