Those pursuing a career in the sciences will want to become quite familiar with words such as colloquium, which translates as an academic conference or seminar. If you’re enrolled as a physics major, you can get a taste of what colloquia are all about on Wednesday, Sept. 25, when Professor Charlotte Elster, Ph.D. , Physics and Astronomy faculty at OU, gives a presentation for the OU Physics Colloquium at 4 p.m. at 118 Nieuwland Science Hall.
Professor Elster, a theoretical and nuclear physicist, has conducted research on the strong force between protons and neutrons, and on nuclei made of few neutrons and protons.
While you’re studying physics and the other sciences at OU, get to know the OU Physics Facebook page – the common room for you and other majors. Need a college roommate? You may want to get to know other physics majors through the Facebook page and any social events announced so you can make the best choice in Ohio University housing.
