Does the phrase “Science Café” stir your interest? What could it possibly be? Why not find out on Wednesdays at 5 p.m. at the Ohio University Baker Center Front Room while participating in a topical discussion? Led by a guest faculty speaker, Science Cafés and Café Conversations are an opportunity for students to share ideas and interests with staff, faculty presenters and whoever else shows up, including, and most importantly, your fellow students. Science Cafés are designed for students who not only want to hear new ideas about a wide range of topics, but also are looking to engage in discussions.
Check out some of these speakers, slated for the remainder of the semester:
- Oct. 30: Shannon Nicks, assistant professor, social and public health
- Nov. 13: Deb McAvoy: professor, civil engineering
- Dec. 4: Cory Cronin, assistant professor, social and public health
Previous topics have run the gamut from “The Prevalence and Pitfalls of Seeking Emotional Support Through Religious Organizations” to “Cleaning Up Pollution by Turning It into Paint.” You never know what topic the visiting prof is likely to come up with, so if you like your science/health discussions with a little serendipity and an unexpected focus, bring your roommates along from your three bedroom apartment in Athens Ohio and see what’s up for the next Science Café.
