Ohio University celebrates University Trombone Day 2020 on Feb. 8 when OU School of Music presents Jose Milton Vieira, international soloist.
Vieira’s performance is just one event marking Trombone Day. Other trombone-related activities include a group warm-up, master classes and a mass trombone choir, to be capped off by Vieira’s performance. A “rising trombone superstar,” Vieira has performed worldwide and in his native Brazil. He is the winner of many national and international competitions in Brazil and other countries. He has taught master classes in Brazil and internationally. He is currently visiting professor at the Escuela Vincente Alscone in Montevideo.
Trombone players and brass enthusiasts, including high school and college students, are invited to participate in this event. Registration is online.
Other musical events for February include a visiting artist recital with Dana Piano Trio on Feb. 9 at 8 p.m. in Glidden Recital Hall and a stop from the national tour of The Choir of Man, a 90-minute show with harmonies, energetic dancing and live percussion accompanying foot-stomping choreography on Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.
