Athens sure knows how to celebrate Halloween in blockbuster style. Every year residents, students and visitors all gather for a humongous block party that actually spans several blocks, with various parties distributed throughout the city.
It started in 1974, and for better or worse, the Halloween Block Party has been growing ever since. As usual, Court Street will be shut down, so if you’re trying to make your way to your Court Street apartments Athens Ohio, you may want to get home well before party time starts at 7 p.m.

Weird, wacky and wonderful costumes abound throughout the Uptown area on the Saturday nearest Halloween, which this year will be Nov. 2. Expect anywhere from 10,000 to 30,000 revelers to gather. Athens’ population numbers only around 24,000 so you get the picture of how crowded it can be.
Just so you know, the university means business about trying to limit the number of folks from outside of Athens who show up – allowing students in dorms only a single guest for the weekend. OU spends a tremendous amount on security, while the City of Athens calls on law enforcement agencies from outside our county to lend assistance with crowd control.
If celebrating creepy or spook-style is not your deal, then look into some of the alternative Halloween activities offered by the U for Halloween night (this year, falling on a Thursday) or on block party night.
