Our Off-Campus Rentals Offer More Flavor Than Baskin Robbins
It’s hard to beat the convenience of living in or near uptown Athens, or in the neighborhoods around Ohio State in Columbus. In the first instance, not only are you close to the Ohio University campus, including classroom buildings, Alden Library and Baker Center; you also have a wide variety of restaurants, bars and coffee shops, all within a short jaunt. What more could a college student want location-wise in college rental housing? The same goes for apartments near the OSU campus, which by definition are located near the bustling commercial district along North High Street.
On the flip side, off-campus student homes around the East State Street area have a lot of appeal to them too. Sure, being further from campus isn’t great, but renting your very own parking spot that’s close to campus helps with that. A home for rent on East State Street that’s cheap on rent doesn’t have nearly as much background noise as somewhere along Uptown would. You’ve got more of a cozy, residential feel, and you’re close to some convenient shopping centers. And if you’re wanting space above all else, it doesn’t get better than some of the rental homes that have gigantic backyards on the east side of Athens.
When you rent off-campus student housing in either Athens or Columbus, you’ll have the respective city at your fingertips—being centrally-located means you’re always a quick drive or short walk from more than just campus. Getting an apartment near Court Street or a rental home right off of High Street all but guarantees you’ll be close to the best bars and things to do. And with the variety of the top-tier rental apartments we offer, you’re sure to find your perfect college pad here. If you’re thinking of something more low-key, we’ve got options too. We’ve got plenty of homes with multiple bedrooms for students to rent close to East State Street. You won’t get the quick-paced hustle and bustle of Court Street, but you’ll be in a convenient area with tons to offer.
At Krause Rental Properties we offer numerous uptown Athens, Ohio apartments of all sizes, and plenty in the off-campus neighborhoods near Ohio State, too. If you’re looking for OSU or OU off-campus housing near the action, take a minute to check out what we have to offer. You will find affordable, quality rentals close to OU or OSU with one to five bedrooms. Your college experience includes the university student housing you end up renting, so why not rent something right in the thick of things? You’ll thank yourself once you realize how close you are to everything, and you’ll never run out of things to do with friends. Remember, settling in the center of action doesn’t mean you can’t occasionally escape into the country for some outdoor relief. Athens has plenty of scenic state and national parks, and Columbus has its surrounding areas and abundance of metro parks when you need to escape the concrete jungle. And similarly, being in a rental home with a prime location around East State Street doesn’t mean you can’t call a rideshare service for a night out at the bars with your friends every once in a while. Or if the weather’s nice, you could even get in some cardio and walk to lunch on Court Street with a friend and take in the scenery along the way.
Athens Hills: They Can Be Murder
As anyone who lives in Athens long enough knows, the hills are a particular challenge. You can’t avoid them any more than you can avoid breathing air or drinking water. It comes with the territory—literally—of living in southeastern Ohio, and there’s no way past them without going up… or down, depending on where you’re coming from. Make it easy on yourself. While a lot of our rental homes for students are further away from things—like our apartments off of East State Street or our one, two, and three-bedroom rental homes in the residential neighborhoods—many of our units are close to campus and can save you, your legs, and your back some grief while traversing hilly terrain.
Whether you’re renting an Athens Ohio rental house or apartment, you can live in the center of town, right near campus and uptown Athens, and avoid the tiring, back-breaking walking commute to campus. Skip that hassle and live in the hottest spots uptown – closer to class, closer to your friends. If you’re running late, it won’t be so bad since you’ll practically already be where you’re going. Friends will come to you because you’ll be so close to everything. Classes are right there. Life is just easier. And the bonus – if fitness is your thing, the Ping Recreation Center and other campus exercise options are just a short walk down the hill (well, we didn’t say you could avoid ALL the hills). Plus, when the weekend rolls around, your uptown rental is within walking distance from all the bars and restaurants in the area—there’s a reason uptown is one of the best places to rent in the city. When your weekend night is done and over, you won’t have to stumble up the hills after midnight to get back home. Just don’t be surprised when your friends start to ask to crash at your Court Street rental for the night to avoid the same fate.
If you and your friends are fortunate enough to have cars along for the college ride, an apartment further away from campus around East State Street isn’t all that bad either. Cars let you completely bypass the struggle of trekking up and down the hills on a daily basis. You’re a lot more likely to find an apartment or home for rent that’s big enough for multiple people the further from campus you get. Plus, you’ll have the peace, quiet, and privacy of being somewhere that’s pulled back from the noise around campus.
The Perks of Living Close to OSU’s Campus
In Columbus, substitute the word “traffic” for “hills” and you’ll find a similar relief in your apartment located within an easy walk of the Ohio State campus. You’ll get to avoid the monotonous boredom of sitting in bumper to bumper rush hour traffic while you’re trying to leave campus (or head in in the mornings), and you’ll instead get to crash on your couch within minutes of leaving campus. The perks of being in an Ohio State student rental home don’t end there either. If you’ve got an apartment on or near High Street, you’ll be a quick walk from one of the most popular areas in Columbus with a bevy of bars, restaurants, and boutique shopping. Plus, there are always plenty of events happening around the city’s bustling downtown area.
Not only will you not have to drive to the bars on the weekends with friends, you don’t have to worry about paying any expensive rideshare app fees when your High Street rental home is no more than a 15-20 minute walk away.
Need to meet up for group projects after classes? There’s no need to walk long distances or drive over to campus in the evening hours when your off-campus housing is only a few minutes away from campus and the Thompson Library. No matter where you live, close proximity to the essentials is a luxury, and we’ve got plenty of luxury rentals around the campus areas in Athens and Columbus.
Avoid the Hike Uptown By Renting a Quality Athens Court Street Apartment

If you work uptown, you can’t beat the convenience of living on Court Street or one of the close-in side streets. There’s no commute like a walking or biking commute to work—plus, you’ll be reducing your vehicular emissions and doing a solid for the environment. No more showing up late after spending a half hour trying to find a parking space—although we also have parking spaces for rent around Athens if you already like your home and location. Don’t waste half your day walking uphill both ways to get to and from class, meals, or the library. Check out our selection of Court Street apartments and get all the advantages that come with living uptown. If you’re an Ohio State Buckeye, Krause Rental Properties has a nice selection of apartments of varying sizes within easy walking distance of both the Ohio State campus and the North High Street commercial district that serves college students.
Apartments Further from Campus Offer Solace
If you’re introverted and don’t want to deal with the crowds of people running around Court Street day in and day out, a rental that’s further out from campus might be the best bet. The more residential areas of Athens—like the homes for rent in the neighborhoods surrounding East State Street—are great choices for anyone who wants the vibe to be less hectic and more chill than anything else.
You’ve got shopping centers placed right along East State for any last-minute needs, and you’re practically around the corner from Kroger, the only large grocery store in Athens. It’s something most people don’t initially think of, but when you’re scrambling to finish a project for class, and you need things like markers, tape, paper, and other materials, you’ll be glad to be close by.
You’re also close to most of the main freeway entrances if you ever want to take a day to go visit any of the surrounding areas like Hocking Hills, Stroud’s Run State Park, or even Wayne National Forest. Rental properties for students on the east side of Athens are still as convenient as an Uptown rental, just in different ways.
