Eating good, local food is certainly a perk when it comes to living in Athens, Ohio. An old Columbus Dispatch article on the 30 Mile Meal, a project on food producers all located within 30 miles of Athens, reminds us of how good we’ve got it.
The article highlights a variety of local food efforts in Athens, from Jackie O’s Brewery which uses locally sourced fruit for its beer to Casa Nueva’s work with local seasonal food to the festivals celebrating the food of the region.
As Leslie Schaller, program director for the Appalachian Center for Economic Networks, points out in the article, “Our local food and beverage scene is really unique and extraordinary.”
