If you like rock music with blues and country vibes thrown in, you won’t want to miss Elle King when she rolls into town at the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium in September. Here’s what you need to know before the auditorium is taken asunder by the snares of guitars, drums, and raw vocal talent.
About Elle King
If you’re among the crowd who doesn’t know much about the award-winning singer—although you likely couldn’t have avoided hearing her smash hit single, Ex’s & Oh’s, in some capacity during 2015—there’s a lot of lore to catch up on.
While King was born in Los Angeles, she actually grew up in Ohio right around the central and southeastern parts of the state. She got her early starts in music around the early 2010s, coming out with an EP before dropping the aforementioned lead single, Ex’s & Oh’s, which netted her both plenty of new fans eager to hear her brand of music along with award nominations and a top ten spot on the Billboard Hot 100. After the release of her first full-length album, she toured with prominent musicians like Modest Mouse and continued to rise in popularity and gain new fans.
With a second and third studio album, King has gradually shifted more into the country and country rock genres with her recent music, which notes a departure from the more alternative-leaning sound of her first album and hit singles. She’s been nominated and has won a handful of awards within the country music community, and has opened for plenty of top-name country acts like The Chicks, Miranda Lambert, and Chris Stapleton since pivoting genres slightly.
