Ohio University will observe Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 11, by closing university offices. No classes will meet on Veterans’ Day. You’re on your own as to whether or not you’ll use the day to rest up from partying the night before, to get some traction on your assignments or perhaps to partake of some of the local events honoring veterans.
Traditionally, Athens hosts an annual Veterans Day Parade and ceremony, starting at 10 a.m. in uptown Athens. A public ceremony at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument near the OU college gate at Court and Union streets will be held at 11 a.m.
Various chapters of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will host free meals for veterans and families (TBA).
If you’re a veteran or would just like to honor those who served, be sure you and your friends get out of your Athens Ohio rental houses or wherever you dwell and get over to uptown Athens for the parade and other festivities.
