Part of the university experience is (and should be) expanding your cultural horizons. No matter if you’re a STEM major and excessively right-brained, it won’t hurt to take a walk on the arty side now and then and partake of an art film or art show. Happily, the latter is easily done (students can leave their cars parked at their rentals close to OU) on the OU campus by visiting the Kennedy Museum of Art.
“Reflective Objects: Collectors and Their Collections” opens Aug. 30 and runs through Jan. 5. You’ll get to know the local culture better through this showcase of the collections of various community members, as well as some insight into what motivates collectors to collect.
This exhibition will be followed by “Recent Acquisitions: Storytelling Through Practices of Collecting” Sept. 20-Dec. 22, showcasing not only the most recent additions to the Kennedy, but also highlighting the process of acquisition by asking what considerations go into the acquisition decision. Visitors will also learn how curatorial practice can contribute to meaning through the interpretation of objects.
Enhance your art museum experience by taking a tour free of charge. Tours should be scheduled in advance: general public tours are available for groups of 10 or more, while faculty, instructors and university groups may arrange for a guided tour. All tours can be designed to meet individual needs.
