In the comedy-drama play “She Kills Monsters,” Agnes Evans loses her parents and sister Tilly in an auto accident. Having been distant from her sister during her lifetime, Agnes tries to know her sibling better through a Dungeons and Dragons module that Tilly had written, and that Agnes stumbles across when cleaning out the family home. This adventure leads Agnes into discoveries about Tilly’s struggles that she never imagined.
The play, by Qui Nguyen, debuted in 2011. Celebrated for delving into the world of “geeks and gamers, ogres and homicidal fairies,” and heralded as “wildly imaginative theater,” “She Kills Monsters” is set in Athens, Ohio, where the playwright was a 2002 alumnus of OU. The play is also steeped in the ‘90s culture that the playwright was immersed in during his college years.
A production of the play is set for Feb. 20-22 and Feb. 25-29 at 8 p.m. at the Forum Theater, RTV Building. Talkbacks are planned on Feb. 22 and 26 following the play.
