Dark skies are becoming an increasingly rare and precious phenomenon. Lots of people of university age may never have even seen a dark sky, or witnessed the dazzling brilliance of such celestial wonders as Mars, Jupiter, the Rings of Saturn and the Milky Way.
Fortunately you have a nearby, on-campus opportunity to view these sights locally when Ohio University Astronomy faculty and students host regular telescope nights at OU Observatory, located at The Ridges on the Athens campus.
The next telescope night is slated for Friday, June 21, from 9 to 11 p.m. It’s free and open to the public, but dependent on sky conditions.
You can park in University lots 202, 200 and 201 if you arrive after 5 p.m. on Friday. Otherwise, it’s not a far bike ride or walk from your home; if it’s not raining, leave the car in your Athens Ohio parking space and boldly go under your own steam to have a look at space, the final frontier.
